Thanks for your input but I already asked the question.
The guy at Europsares said it was a switch unique to GTC4 whhich I do not beieve that at all.
I sent the pics & he said he had nothing like it depite having a yard full of cars.
I am thinking it may also fit Alfa, Lancia,Fiat but don't know how to find out-any ideas ?
Thanks again

Ian, The switch is not used on the 365 GT 2+2. I fear it is unique to the C/4, though the fog light switch is used on other cars I believe, and perhaps can be modified.
The master of switch repair/ rebuilding is located in Sonoma, California. His name is Jim Simpson . I do not know him, but have communicated with him. He seems like a great guy. In this area, he is known as a master craftsman who only rebuilds things by hand. I'd reach out to Jim. You can see his wares at http://www.oddparts.net . Good luck. -Rick

Hi Rick
Thanks fro the advice.I have emailed Jim Simpson. I also can not beleive that Ferrari had a switch made that was unique for only 500 cars
i.e 1000 pieces + spares
Thanks Jaques for the link but it does not seem to be an Alfa part.
I am now in the process of glueing the broken back together with Araldite
It will save me some time if anyone give me the correct connections
Thanks

I believe that these switches are Mercedes sourced (but cannot confirm).
400 Switches are similar but do not have the chrome bezel.

Hi Rick
I just received a very nice reply from Jim Simpson who says it is no problem to repair the switch & it wll be better than original. He estimates 10 hours work at a cost of $1200 USD +17% in money transfers, handling & conversion fees.I will have to try & find a replacement or fix it myself
Thanks for the heads up

Hello all
Bill M is the main MAN & correct about the window lifting switches.
They are in fact a Mercedes electric sun roof switch for use,I am told, on type designations W 108,109,111& 112 such as
W108 250 280 S SE SEL,W111 250 280 SE, W109 300 SEL ,W112 300 SE
Ferrari UK & other usual suspects have said they are NLA but Mercedes in Germany have new ones in stock & I have 2 on the way to me. There are three more available from the factory-if only Ferrari were that thoughtful. The switches are approx £50 each including UK shipping just a little more affordable than the $1200 remake quotation.
I have also bought a used switch from a Mercedes breaker in the UK for £5 to confirm & it arrived just now-it is exact & includes the chrome surround
I had previously contacted various Ferrari expert parts suppliers one of whom told me he had been looking for the original source for several years without success-contact WM in Oz I say.
Bill-Thanks Thanks & Thank you again & thanks for everyone's input

Thanks for the kind words but, as with most endeavors in life, it wouldn't be worth a damn if I did it alone.
I often read in amazement the amount of detailed technical knowledge that is dispensed here -- a heck of a lot more than I have for sure. Just look at Ian's recent postings on engine removal, for example.
And, truth be told, a large majority of the content really only comes from a small subset of our membership.
Ian and John -- neither of you owe a thing -- you are among the most prolific and high-quality contributors to the site.
Now, back to embarassing Schumi... ;-)

I am not sure if I was given this clue by Chuck King or my friend Carle Rheinberger - both of whom have been a wealth of Ferrari/C4 information for me.
Carle always adds slave relays (with a separate fused supply) in the doors for the window switches/motors of the Italian classics he works on. This reduces the load on the switches, making them last longer and the speed of window operation is much improved (due to reduced voltage drop) - much recommended.

Hello Bill
I am the proud owner of 2 beautiful new sitches direct from Mercedes Benz
They were £60 each including tax & post
They operate really nicely & I am doing as Wil suggested & lubricating with ACF-50
Part number is A 001 821 06 51
Let me know if you want me to order them for you.

Hello
I have now replaced the window lifter switches & I think they make a difference.
I have also opened the broken old switch to see how it works & the contacts were really filthy & more than a little corroded.
The plastic rocker top holds a spring loaded "T" shaped metal roller which runs on a curved metal conatct up to the the plastic limit pillars.
This pillar was the bit that was broken on mine but the switch was NOT cooked.
Wil Stevenson suggested I use some ACF-50 on the old ones as they have never seen any contact cleaner or lubricant.
There is an opening on either side of the switch just below the metal cover in which you can insert an aerosol tube,
& if you push the tube half way in & give a squirt you are right at the business end .I did this on the new ones also.
Working it a few times really makes a difference in smoothness & I think window speed, or am I kidding myself?
I would recommend this if you have a spare half hour & if you lift out the ashtray first it is so much easier to push the window switches up & out.
Regards
Ian L
